WHO WE ARE

It All Started With a Simple Idea... 

Founded in 1993 in La Romana, Dominican Republic, Orfanato Niños de Cristo consists of two orphanages housing orphans and/or children who have been victims of abuse, abandoned, or homeless. Their mission is to provide children in need with a safe home, adequate nutrition, health services, and a proper education, ideally through to college, in order to help them become independent and productive members of their communities.

Each child who stays at Orfanato Niños de Cristo is unique. Each one has a story. And every one of them deserves a shot at a bright and hopeful future. 

The girls at Niños de Cristo have many gifts and talents. They are very creative and imaginative and have so much to offer to the world. What if there was a way to capture this boundless creativity and imagination to create a product the girls could sell, thus providing support for their future? Zuleika, a woman who was once an orphan at Niños de Cristo, had an idea. 

Through the help of local sources, she was able to start bringing her idea to fruition. She gathered discarded scraps of fabric from the local textile factories and found a local supplier of t-shirts. With her own money, she purchased the t-shirts to start the project. 

Armed with these resources, she showed the girls how to use the leftover scraps of fabric to create fun and colorful designs on t-shirts and bags. Inspired by the natural beauty that surrounds them, the girls were eager to use their talents to create tropical designs out of the recycled fabric and sew them onto the t-shirts and bags. Each original piece became a wearable work of art depicting the beauty of the Dominican Republic. 

Zuleika’s vision has now become My Hands Creations. Her hope is to expand the project with new styles and accessories influenced by their tropical location and offer their wearable works of art to the world. With each creation that is sold, a bright new future is formed.
